Textiles drew me to Kyoto in 1972 and also provided the foundation for a fabulous six week tour this April and May.

What changes have occurred in Japan in the last 47 years?!

Continuous cherry blossoms charmed my husband and delighted me as we were welcomed and guided by friends, family and strangers.

Come with me from a hot spring onsen in Aizu to the fishing islands of the Seto Sea, where the Setouche Triennale was in full swing. Photos and some examples will bring the trip to life, with the emphasis on fabric and art.

I found that Katazome kimono printing is remarkably the same as when I went to Kyoto to study with Mr. Kunio Isa so long ago.

Bettina stitches the world. Bettina uses her stitches to represent the world she sees and navigates. She says: I grew up around sailboats on BC’s coast, and hike in many corners of Canada, hence a love of charts, maps, symbols and viewpoints. Her presentation will focus on stitched maps. https://craftedvancouver.com/craftspeople/bettina-matzkuhn/
